The project, on behalf of Campbell Reith Consulting Engineers, saw
signage installed at its new office headquarters in Blackfriars, London.
MegaLED decided to use its new hybrid sign illumination system for
backlighting the decorated glass and plastic panels, with the sign
itself featuring a curved design that mirrored the shape of the
reception wall.

one so easy to apply”
The front of the sign was produced using a 6mm flat acrylic panel
with a pearlescent effect, created by overlaying the panel with two
layers of vinyl.

It was necessary to find a tape strong enough to hold the flat front
panel in a curved position, as well as ensuring the backlight was spread
evenly so letters were lit consistently with no visible shadows.
MegaLED approached Tecman for help, with the firm developing a Vhpb
adhesive tape from the Bond44 range. To solve the lighting issue, a
special diffusion film—normally used for LCD screens—was utilised.
“We’ve used a lot of adhesive tapes over the years and never found
one so easy to apply, it’s mainly due to the release liner being a
siliconised film so it removed very easily,” comments MegaLED director,
Steve Kane, adding: “This smooth process meant we saved time and it
allowed us to hold the panels in precise position while bonding them
together.”
The two firms are now set to work together on a project for the Paris
Motor show in order to create the most effective solution.
