Developing skills for success with Antalis
We recently reported on how Antalis is helping print-service-providers and sign-makers diversify into other sectors that can return better profits. Having seen one of its workshops in action, it is clear they are having a fantastic response from members of the industry.

The Antalis Academy workshops are all led by specialists, with the wallcoverings workshop led by installation specialist Tom Earthrowl
On February 1st I attended the Digital Wallcoverings Applications workshop led by Tom Earthrowl, installation specialist at Aqua Graphics. He gives the group of six attendees, who have come from print and installation companies all over the UK and Europe, his top tips learnt from experience.
The workshop is very practical, as Earthrowl says: “If I was going on this course I would want to be able to go out on a job tomorrow and do it.” The attendees got the chance to apply wall coverings firstly to an MDF board and then to the walls of the Academy.
The Academy in itself is impressive too, with vibrant graphics and a big range of the latest printing, finishing, and 3D technology. This includes a Roland DG True Vis VG-540 (which the wallpaper for the workshop was printed on that day), HP Latex 560, Drytac Jet Mounter, and Maker Bot Replicator 3D printer.
Customers really do need to differentiate their businesses and develop new skills to continue to succeed ”
Giles Bristow, digital support manager at Antalis, tells me: “What the wall covering workshop does is support the Coala product range that Antalis sells and we hope that we will bring in our customers from commercial print and visual communications businesses to hone their skills in applying the Coala wall design products that they print.
“The workshop topics range from practical, for example vehicle wrapping, sign-making, and canvas framing through to theoretical topics, for example Adobe and Coral software. In 2017 we put on 75 workshops with over 500 attendees, and overall the feedback has been very positive. It’s a pleasure for us to be able to support our customers.”
In a first for Antalis, this year it will launch business coaching workshops. The company will also exhibit at Sign and Digital UK with a hands-on focus to its stand.
Bristow concludes: “I think it’s really important that training takes place. Businesses are developing, technology is developing, and new products are coming on to the market, so customers really do need to differentiate their businesses and develop new skills to continue to succeed.”
