In a pre-tournament warm-up match between Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago many eyes drifted away from the football to a vast banner celebrating the player made in Birmingham. Hollywood Monster are the Midlands outfit behind the vast piece of signage when they produced the colossal flag for sports brand ADIDAS. The West Midlands sign company created the 9 x 6.6m flag, featuring the name of FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi and his logo.

It took the company 24 hours to turn around the job and as soon as it was completed, it was whisked to London to be flown to Argentina, where Messi led out the Argentina team at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, Buenos Aires, for the friendly.

Tim Andrews, managing director of Hollywood Monster in Birmingham, said: “You could say it was a tall order but we knew we had the expertise and technology to be able to produce this huge flag quickly so it could be used to welcome Messi and his teammates at the game.
 
“To watch it being passed around the stadium before the match gave us all a huge sense of pride.”
 
The flag was printed on 115gsm, polyester flag material and was produced on Hollywood Monster’s M-TEX Dye sublimation printer.
