With the help of Neschen AG, giant images of the sea’s inhabitants are set to take over the beach at Zingst
World-famous nature photography festival Horizonte Zingst has revealed that it used the power of large-format print to ensure maximum impact of the German-based show this year.
Organisers mounted an outdoor exhibition on the beach at the Baltic Sea resort of Zingst, with prints standing directly by the sea. Photographs by Dresden artist Betty Schöner has put together a series of macro images of marine animals, entitled Seamore—with XXL, 3 x 3m fine-art prints showing portraits of the sea’s inhabitants.
“Installations in close proximity to the beach are a big attraction. As the exhibits are exposed in this case to extreme climatic conditions, the digital prints must fulfil the highest quality standards,” explains curator, Klaus Tiedge.
To ensure the safety of work, print media and protection films from Neschen AG, based in Bückeburg, Germany, were used. The self-adhesive PVC film Solvoprint easy 80 GSP removable—which is both UV and water resistant—was printed with the new Epson SureColor SC-30600 using special inks.
The digital prints were also laminated with Neschen protection film Filmolux photo satin, helping give the exhibits a glossy surface finish. The film also prevents unwanted reflections, meaning visitors would not be dazzled by bright sunlight.
Although UV inks have a course structure, meaning water-based adhesives have trouble sticking, Neschen says this is not the case with its water-based polyacrylate dispersion. The firm says it develops ‘superlative adhesive power’ and offers a greener solution than conventional solvent-based materials.
Neschen emphasised that outdoor durability is essential for its products, so that viewers can enjoy high quality imagery without the substrate degrading over the course of an event.
