IPEX has recently announced its plans to reposition the exhibition
It is the first major standalone wide-format supplier to confirm its
non-attendance, in a move that the firm says will allow it to re-focus
on its sales and marketing initiatives to meet what it describes as
‘changing needs of its markets’.
Agfa, a major supplier of wide-format kit, has already confirmed its decision not to be at the Excel next year.
“We have witnessed a number of shifts in the marketing landscape
over the last couple of years and, as such, we believe our customers are
now best served by changing some of the ways in which we communicate
with them,” explains Roland DG UK managing director, Jerry Davies.
As well as Roland DG, Ipex has additionally seen the likes of
digital print giants, Kodak, Xerox and HP also pull out of the
event—which is due to take place at London’s Excel centre next year.

Despite the blow, IPEX director, Trevor Crawford, recently declared that the event is
‘absolutely in sync’ with what the market wants.
A new revamped programme for the event was also recently released,
with IPEX 2014 being billed as ‘The first global event where print meets
multi-channel’.
IPEX claims the 2014 edition will be 60,000 sq/m, with over 33,000 sq/m of that space already confirmed.
However, the effect that the withdrawal of another big name—and one
associated with a thriving sector of the print industry—will have is
yet to be seen.
