KImla enhances coaster production

Midlands-based point-of-sale products specialist Orchard Melamine has installed a super-fast Kimla CNC router, increasing the firm’s bespoke coaster production to more than 2.5 million units annually.

The new investment at Orchard Melamine was made to facilitate business expansion

The purchase took place shortly after Daltons Wadkin had taken on the agency for Kimla, and Gary Chamberlain from Orchard Melamine got in touch with the firm to try and resolve the problems the business was having with its existing CNC routers, which were not able to keep up with increasing demand.

Chamberlain comments: “Processing time was of course key, but it was imperative that our high standard of quality with which we are synonymous was maintained. We use melamine for our coasters as it is an extremely durable product, but of course this makes it all the tougher when machining.

The installation support, training and backup from Daltons Wadkin has been first class

“Each of our four Wadkin UX CNC machines are loaded with a sheet of 10 coasters at a time and they take approximately 6 minutes to machine.”

The Kimla model now features a customised vacuum bed to secure the coasters, and is able to produce 40 coasters in less than four minutes, which is six times as fast as was previously possible.

Chamberlain adds: 'I am delighted with the Kimla. We have been operating the machine for two years now with no issues what so ever, and it produces more units than the other 4 machines put together. The installation support, training and backup from Daltons Wadkin has been first class.”
