Future direction: the sign that writes itself

Big ideas often start in America and arrive here a few months later, or so some would have you believe.

Well one potential future direction for the sign industry is the rotating sign that changes its information throughout the day and lights up when the sun goes down.

Whether it will point out vacant park benches for courting couples we are yet to find out

The Sign Design Society based in London reported on Points, the revolutionary new sign created in the USA by Breakfast of Brooklyn. The robotic street sign features three rotation arms that point people in the right direction based on what they are looking for and what’s happening around them.

For example at lunch time Points indicates the nearest food outlets, while in the evening it’s restaurants, theatres and the last train home that are highlighted. Points’ three arms are constantly updating themselves based on information from sources such as Twitter. Whether it will point out vacant park benches for courting couples we are yet to find out.
